Dengue Fever – Symptoms, Transmission, Prevention and Home Remedies


Dengue fever nicknamed “break bone fever”caused by dengue virus, spreads through mosquitoes carrying dengue virus. When a mosquito carrying dengue virus bites a person, the virus enters the skin together with the mosquito's saliva. It binds to and enters white blood cells, and reproduces inside the cells while they move throughout the body. Dengue mosquitoes usually bites during the day or evening. Currently there is no human vaccine available.

Symptoms
  • Fever
  • Headache
  • Muscle and joint pains
  • Pain behind eyes
  • Rashes in skin
  • Vomiting
Transmission
  • Viral fever mostly transmitted through dengue mosquitoes(Aedes aegypti) which prefers to lay its eggs in artificial water containers, to live in close proximity to humans, and to feed off people.
  • Dengue can also be transmitted through infected blood transmission.
  • Dengue can be life-threatening in people with chronic diseases such as diabetes and asthma.
Prevention
  • No vaccine available, prevention depends on controlling and protecting from bites of the dengue mosquitoes.
  • Keep home and surrounding clean.
  • Avoid open collection of water the primary habitat of mosquitoes.
  • Prevent mosquito bite by wearing clothes that fully covers the body.
  • Use mosquito repellants or netting while resting.
Home Remedies to avoid Dengue
  • Drink lot of water and juice to replace fluid loss.
  • Avoid solid foods until the fever is gone.
  • Drink coriander leaf juice.
  • Take Vitamin C rich fruits like amla, lemon etc
  • Eat cut pieces of onion with lunch or dinner.
  • Take papaya juice.
